Ascot Academy students get job offer before graduation
KOTA KINABALU: Ascot Academy has lived up to its ‘A Qualification and a Career’ motto as 100 per cent of its students from its Dual Certificate Programme have managed to secure jobs within a month before graduating.
Ascot Academy Chief Executive Officer Abdul Razak Egoh explained that a total of 22 students from the programme have received job offers from Ascot’s industry partners around the country, namely Genting World Resort, Putrajaya Marriot and a few other international chain restaurants such as Chakri Palace and Din Tai Fung restaurant.
It is understood that the Dual Certificate Programme consists of two certificates, namely the Malaysian Skill Certificate Level 2 (credited by the Department of Skill Development) and the City and Guilds United Kingdom Diploma in Culinary Arts.
“Support from our industry partners and the various employers of the country is vital. These days, employers are more inclined towards hiring individuals with actual skill certificates.
“Some of our students are even able to obtain equal or even higher salary than those with diploma degree qualification,” Abdul Razak said during yesterday’s Ascot Academy graduation ceremony which was held at the Klagan Regency Hotel, 1Borneo.
This group of graduates is the fourth batch to have received yearly funding from the State Economic Planning Unit (Upen) under the Peningkatan Kapasiti and Kapabiliti Kumpulan Khusus Latihan Kemahiran programme.
In line with this, Abduk Razak also expressed his gratitude towards Upen for their unending support towards Ascot Academy.
Meanwhile, Upen Sabah director Datuk Haji Osman Haji Jamal, who had officiated at the ceremony, said in his speech that students in the hotel-related industry were instrumental in ensuring the growth of Sabah’s tourism.
“If possible for next year’s programme, specifically for the Bumiputra students of Sabah, we will try to expand the number of funded students from 22 to 30,” Haji Osman noted.
He asserted that his department will try to increase the total amount of funding for the next instalment of the programme and that his department will try to provide incentives for students who manage to excel in their studies.
The graduation ceremony also witnessed the presentation of the Best Student Award to Edify Gleam Jutin, 23.
