Guan Eng still mum over potential legal action by MACC

-

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng continues to keep mum on potential legal action taken by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over his reluctance to make an open apology to the commission.

Lim said he would only comment on the matter when the time is right and for the time being, he would not comment anything.

He was met by reporters after officiating at the ground-breaking ceremony of Federal Oats Mills Sdn Bhd , here, yesterday.

Yesterday, MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad had reportedly said the commission was expected to meet on Sept 4 to discuss legal action against Lim who was reluctant to apologise or withdraw his remark that the MACC had made an ‘illegal arrest’ in detaining state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh over a probe on an alleged illegal factory.

Last Friday, the MACC issued a statement demanding Lim to make an open, unconditional apology to the commission within 48 hours or face legal action.

The MACC said it regarded the statement on Phee’s arrest as defamatory and was aimed at smearing the good name of the commission.

Meanwhile, Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, said the Pakatan Harapan (PH) headquarters would issue a statement today in relation to its presidential council announcement yesterday that they would not cooperate with PAS in the 14th general election.

“In relation to the decision made yesterday, I think the Pakatan Harapan head office will announce the leaders for 13 states later today. So, let us wait for the announcement before I make any comment,” he said.

PH had issued a statement that its presidential council decided not to cooperate with PAS and was ready to face three-cornered fights in the coming general election.

The statement was signed by PH chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, its president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and deputy presidents, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Mohamad Sabu and Lim, to reject working with PAS.
