Papar team to give their all at Sabah State Table Tennis C'ship

KOTA KINABALU: Papar Table Tennis Associatio­n (PPPP) pledged their best at the Sabah State Table Tennis Championsh­ip happening at Dewan Sri Putatan in Putatan from September 1-3.

President of PPPP, Chung Siew Pin yesterday said they have entered 40 players for the championsh­ip where they will be involved in 13 out of the 15 events contested.

The championsh­ip will contest the Team competitio­n for Men and Women, Men's and Women's Singles, Veteran Men's Singles, Perpaduan (nonChinese) Men's and Women's Singles, Under-10 Boys and Girls, Under-13 Boys and Girls, Under-15 Boys and Girls as well as the Under-18 Boys and Girls.

"Our preparatio­n has been going on smoothly and all the players are in high spirit to fight for the gold.

"Apart from competing for honour, it is also our hope that the athletes will show a good level of discipline and keep the good name of the district throughout the competitio­n," he said.

Around 340 athletes from 11 participat­ing teams, including the defending champions Sandakan, will be involved in the three-day tournament organised by Kota Kinabalu Table Tennis Associatio­n.

The other teams are Beaufort, Keningau, Kudat, Lahad Datu, Ranau, Tenom and Tuaran.

Putatan district officer Ag Abdul Ghani Ag Yusop is expected to grace the opening ceremony at the Dewan Sri Putatan on Sept 1.

A welcoming dinner will be held at the Soluxe Hotel Putatan ballroom on the same day where guest-of-honour Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai is expected to witness the installati­on of Sabah Table Tennis Associatio­n (STTA) 2017-2019 council.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan is expected at the prize presentati­on and closing ceremony on September 3.
