1,000 villagers celebrate Merdeka Day in Keningau

KENINGAU: The Kampung Tudan Baru villagers here celebrated the National Day celebratio­n in a vibrant manner, waving the Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah flags, besides cycling tours and a parade by children and senior citizens.

More than 1,000 villagers, together with leaders celebrated this historic National Day.

The celebratio­n was organized by Komuniti 1 Malaysia (KIM), Village Developmen­t and Security Committee (JKKK), mosque, women affairs and youth associatio­ns.

The event started with a cycling tour by the Tudan Baru Cycling Club (TBCC), followed by the raising of the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flag, and accompanie­d by the Negaraku and Sabah Tanah Airku songs. This was followed by a procession consisting of Blocks, Amanah, Bestari, Ceria and Dinamik and parades in the village field.

Keningau Umno Informatio­n chief Azman Haji Ruslan officiated at the event and reminded the younger generation to always remember the sacrifices of their parents who made them successful people today.

“In this regard, children should always remember the hard work of parents who had to sacrifice in order to see their children succeed, especially in the field of education.”

Azman also reminded the young people not to forget the struggles of leaders who struggled for the independen­ce of the country and the state.

At the same time he also urged the people to continue to be grateful for the peace and harmony enjoyed today as a result of the struggles of previous and present leaders.

Also present were Liawan Community Developmen­t Leader Sahanip Jamil, Jheains Sook administra­tive officer Haslee Sairin and other leaders.

At the event, Azman, together with community leaders and the villagers welcomed the arrival of TBCC who had cycled on a 350-kilometer trip for four days beginning August 28.

They included six members of TBCC led by Aziz Chin Mohd Abdullah who is from Kundasang Ranau, Fazil Lasmin, Safri Sairin, Sharum Abi, Mohd Zulfikar Jukilin and Muhammad Azizi Sidie (Medic).

They were flagged off at the Keningau District Office on August 28, and travelled through Kimanis, Tamparuli, Kundasang, Ranau, Tambunan and arrived at Kampung Tudan Baru Keningau at 11.45 am yesterday.
