Sabahan eyes gold at Worldskill­s Abu Dhabi contest

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah born Marinsun Lanun, 21, will be competing at the Worldskill­s Abu Dhabi 2017 competitio­n at the United Arab Emirates next month.

He will be competing with 26 contestant­s coming from various countries around the world in the Wall and Floor Tiling category.

Marinsun, who is presently a trainee at the Akademi Binaan Malaysia (Sabah Region) and hails from Kota Marudu, said that he was aiming for gold in the internatio­nal competitio­n.

"But of course, in every competitio­n there are winners and losers. I will just do my best¨ he said.

He added: “If I win, it will be for the country, the state, for myself and my family and for his school, the Akedemic Binaan Malaysia.”

The Worldskill­s is one of the largest skills vocational competitio­n in the world and is held once in every two years.

The competitio­n has attracted contenders from 77 countries worldwid, aged between 23 and 25. A total of 51 categories will be contested during the event at Abu Dhabi from Oct 14 to 19.

ABM Sabah region¡¦s Chief Operating Officer, Tadzul Radim, said that they were proud that ABM would once again represent the country at the competitio­n.

He added that in 2013, one of their trainees was also selected to compete in the Worldskill­s competitio­n held at Leipzig, Germany.

He also hoped Marinsun would come home with a medal, preferably a gold.

"In my knowledge, Malaysia has never won a gold so if that happens, it will be a momentous and historical event for ABM, for Malaysia and for Sabah," he said.

Also present were CIDB Malaysia Chief Executive Dato Ahmad Asri Abdul Hamid, CIDB Malaysia Senior General Manager (Personnel Developmen­t and Contractor Sector) Mohd Nazli Ahmad Mahyadin and trainer, Jasni Idris.
