Two dead, three injured in three-vehicle crash

TELUPID: Two people died while two others were severely injured in a crash involving three vehicles near Kampung Wonod here around 7.45pm on Saturday.

Six victims were involved in the accident between a Proton Saga FLX, Nissan Navara and Ford Ranger. The two victims in the Proton Saga FLX died at the scene.

According to State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Mohd Affendy K. Ramin, two other victims were severely injured while one person from the Nissan Navara suffered minor injury and another was not harmed.

The Ranau Fire and Rescue Department responded to a distress call received at 7.45pm and its personnel reached the scene which was 54 kilometers away around one hour later.

The identities of the victims have yet to be confirmed. They were sent to the Telupid Hospital by ambulance.

Meanwhile, another accident took place near Jalan Tongod, Kinabatang­an on the same day around 8pm where two victims were badly injured after two cars - a Proton Saga and a Mazda Fighter - collided head on, injuring both drivers, Samy Sadil, 41, and James Bugung, 51.

Kinabatang­an police said the Proton Saga was heading towards Tongod from Telupid when the Mazda suddenly entered its lane from the opposite direction and caused the collision.

The victims are being treated at Duchess of Kent Hospital Sandakan and are reported to be in stable condition.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 43(1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
