Record entries for Sabah Team Tennis Invitational Tournament
KOTA KINABALU: The 10th edition of the 1Malaysia Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor Sabah Team Tennis Invitational Tournament received a record entry of 18 teams.
To be played from September 15-17 at three venues here, the overwhelming response surpassed the 16 teams from last year.
Sabah Tennis Association (STA) president Johnson Koh expressed satisfaction and happiness to have a record participation this year.
“Coming into the 10th edition, there must be positive points of the tournament.
“Last year’s record of 16 teams was broken. This is proof that the tournament is well received by all the teams, not only from past participating teams but also the new ones,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He opined that the tournament is well received due to Kota Kinabalu’s strategic location for tourism.
The other factor is the organisation of the tournament and the hospitality Sabah provides.
The participating teams are KK Frenz, KK Bugzzzs, Wilson Meerkats (Kuala Lumpur), PTBS-Greensports (Kuching), BDLTA (Bintulu), PTKB (Kota Belud), Tennis Champs Kota Kinabalu, Morning Glory (Kota Kinabalu), Kool Tennis S’pore, Hytech Blended (Kuala Lumpur), Hytech Single Malt (Kuala Lumpur), Ace Tennis Tawau, ILP Sandakan, Likas 1GC, 1Tennis Tawau, Thunder Blaze (Kota Kinabalu), Keningau FOX and Suria Power.
“Three venues will be used namely the Likas tennis courts, Sabah Golf and Country Club and Sutera Harbour Resort tennis courts,” he said after chairing an organising committee meeting.
Koh also added that tournament’s terms and prize money remained the same with the RM15,000 total prize offered.
The 12 top teams will win prize money with the top three receiving RM5,000, RM3,000 and RM2,000 respectively
Also present at the meeting were Azley Jumatli, Sagar Kanpuri, Terrence Wan (transfer and logistics), Christopher Chin (welcoming dinner), Tony Wong (treasurer and tournament director), Tito Latoja (honorary referee) and Dr. Elia Godoong (organising secretary).
