House repairs for 10 poorest families in every district
TENOM: The federal government will repair ten old houses of the poorest families in every district in Sabah under the Old House Repair Assistance Program this year, said Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Radin Malleh.
He said the implementation of the program through the Sabah Federal Development Office proved the government’s concern and commitment to improve the well-being of the people in the rural areas.
“The implementation of the program is in line with the Barisan Nasional (BN) government’s commitment to improve the wellbeing of the rural communities in the country, especially in Sabah,” he told reporters after delivering the assistance to the poorest families at Kampung Makakumpai and Kampung Skim LIGS here on Sunday.
Those who received the aid were Vui Nyun San and Ana binti Angkatan from Kampung Makakumpai, and Kapit bin Gaya from Kampung Skim LIGS here.
The three beneficiaries were among the ten poorest families in the Tenom area listed in the program by the government.
Radin, who is also Melalap assemblyman, said the restoration works of the 10 old houses of the poorest families in this area were conducted jointly by the Department of National Unity and National Integration in collaboration with the neighbourhood area (KRT) and residents in the village.
“I hope the program will continue to be implemented by the federal government as it can alleviate the burden of the poor to repair their houses.
“Stability and people support enable the government to implement development programs to improve the well-being of the people in the state,” he said.
He added that the success of development in the rural areas involved the cooperation and support of the people, especially the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and the KRT in the respective areas.
“JKKK and KRT play a role in assisting the government to monitor the problems of the people and to report to the District Office, Community Development Leader Units and government departments so that follow-up action can be taken to assist the people,” he said.
