GE14: Opposition will make no impact — Max

-

TAWAU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) members have been advised to be wary of the opposition’s tactics to win their hearts.

PBS acting president Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili said the party had not lost in any election and would continue to be relevant, therefore members should not fear to fight for the people of the state.

Maximus, who is also the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, stressed that the opposition parties, such as Parti Warisan Sabah, will make no impact on the outcome of the coming general election despite their claims in the west coast of the state.

Those living in the east coast should be wary as Warisan might have some tactics to win the hearts and minds of Sabahans, he said, during the annual general meeting of the party’s three divisions on Sunday.

Maximus said the current opposition leaders, who were formerly from the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, are now vocal in their quest to influence voters by raising issues faced by Sabahans.

He said that during their tenure when they held ministerial posts under BN, they never raised those issues that they are raising now, but they are raising it now.

Meanwhile, Maximus said the suggestion by the district’s party members for the party to request for the newly established Kukusan constituency seat will be put up for the coalition leaders to decide.

As the new boundary constituencies have yet to be gazetted, he said the party will put up the proposal in line with the request from its members, which include the Segama constituency.

He added that the strength of the party and its multiracial concept had made it relevant to submit the proposal as a constituency like Segama is mainly made of Muslim bumiputeras.

Maximus said PBS had strong support in Segama which include non-Muslim bumiputeras, but it is up to the top BN leaderships to make the final decision.

The three PBS divisions holding their annual general meeting were Merotai, Tanjung Batu and Balung.

During the meeting, Maximus received applications from new members from the three divisions.
