Christopher James wins 4th KGC Closed Golf Tournament Gross category
KOTA KINABALU: Young talent Christopher Daniel James clinched the Gross category title at the 4th KGC Closed Golf Tournament at the Kinabalu Golf Club in Tanjung Aru over the weekend.
The three-day tournament was however played based on 45 holes as bad weather forced the organiser to cancel the last nine holes on the second day of competition on Saturday.
Christopher however led from Friday’s opening round with four-over 74 and followed it up with a 38 based on his first nine scores before completing the tournament with a 76 for a total of 188.
His good form saw him win by five shots over second placed Chua Poh Guan on 193 (78, 41, 74) followed by Yahya Mohd Yusof with 196 (78, 39, 79).
The fourth to 10th placings were Sabarudin Ismail (197 - 77, 40, 80), Nicholas Marcus (199 - 77, 41, 81), Laudin Sundang (199 - 84, 41, 74), Ag. Mohd Seh Pg. Damit (201 - 80, 42, 79), Jakrin Basiran (201 86, 40, 75), Puney Kiob (202 - 83, 41, 78) and Osman Jalil (203 - 82, 44, 77).
In the Nett category, the scores were based on 27 holes (18 on the first day and nine on the second day) and Rayven Leong Kim Tai carded 63 and 38 respectively for the total 99 nett to emerge winner.
Maximillian Benedict Jr. Boijol was second on 101 nett (70, 31) while Latius Lumbog was in third place with 102 nett (67, 35).
President of KGC Datuk Abd Razak Walli presented the prizes to the winners while also present were KGC captain Chua Poh Guan and Sabah Golf Association (SGA) deputy president Valerian Hansen Petrus.
