- By Johan Aziz

KENINGAU: A single mother who neglected her responsibility to her children since becoming hooked on syabu was among five persons arrested by the National AntiDrugs Agency (NADA) during Ops Cegah in a village house here on Monday.

Keningau NADA officer Azry Golbin @ Azmi yesterday said that on September 11, the woman and other suspects were arrested at two village houses after testing positive for drug abuse.

“The single mother, who has two daughters, admitted to being hooked on drugs after getting acquainted with a 36year-old divorced man, who was also arrested during the operation.

“The single mother of two school-going daughters, aged seven and eight, admitted to having forsaken her responsibility for her children after becoming drug addicted with her divorced friend,” he said.

According to Azry, the single mother who divorced in 2012 said she ran away from home after getting hooked on the drug, which also affected her previous business.

Azry said the woman, including the jobless divorced man and three other men, aged between 24 and 31 years old from this district, were detained under Section 3 (1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.

Azry said 80 drug addicts were arrested by the NADA from January to September this year. Of the total, 79 were men who have been sent to the drug rehabilitation center in Papar.
