Youth ordered to do 100-hour community service for retaining stolen bike
KOTA KINABALU: A youth was ordered to carry out 100 hours of community service by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for retaining a stolen motorcycle.
Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun made the order on Muhammad Adam Shukry Roslan, 19, after he pleaded guilty as charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with imprisonment of up to five years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Yesterday’s proceedings was set for his social report to be tendered to the court by an officer from the Welfare Department as he is a youthful offender.
The unrepresented accused was arrested for retaining the stolen motorcycle belonging to a man at a car park area in front of a restaurant in Putatan on July 20.
The court ordered for the accused to carry out his community service concurrently with his previous 100 hours of community service meted out for a conviction of stealing.
In a separate case, Mohamad Fadly Alli, 28, claimed trial to retaining a stolen car belonging to a 27-year-old man, three years ago.
The undefended accused, who was brought before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, was apprehended for allegedly committing the offence at a car park in front of a hall at Taman Sri Kepayan at 3.30 pm on December 17, 2014.
The court fixed October 9 this year to re-mention the case and denied bail to the accused.
