- By Christy Chok

TAWAU: A new party, Parti Ekonomi Rakyat Malaysia (Pekira), which is supportive of the Barisan Nasional (BN), has been set up and indicated that it may contest in two seats in the coming 14th general election (GE14).

Its president, Datuk Mohd Redzuan Abdullah, said Pekira is a new party which is different from others as its vision is to increase the income of the people and to develop Malaysia’s economy.

Unlike Parti Warisan, Pekira is established to offer a variety of aid and programs to help entrepreneurs enhance their income and economy. The party is very supportive of the Prime Minister and will ensure all aid will be delivered to the grassroots.

Mohd Redzuan said Pekira is always with the people and understands the needs of people. He does not want the people to be deceived by the opposition parties and assured that they would have more bright opportunities if they are with Pekira.

He said Pekira is a pro-government party that will join the Barisan Nasional as a component party after it is approved by the Registrar of Societies in October.

According to Mohd Redzuan, over the last two months, Pekira has recruited several thousand members and reckoned more will join the party this month to achieve its target of 30,000 members by the end of this year in Sabah.

He said this to the media before launching the Pekira Tawau division cum Richmind Group affiliated entrepreneur program at a hotel here last night.

Also present were the managing director of Richmind Group, Dato’ Mohd Arif Hamdi bin Dr Hj Che Hamat, president of Pekira Sabah, Mohd Safrie Gomboh Abdullah, and president of Pekira Tawau division, Tuan Hj Yusuf.
