Merdeka Day Sand Castle Competitio­n in Tawau

TAWAU: Teams KV Junior, Tawau Federation of Chinese Associatio­ns Youth Section and KT6 A grabbed top honours in the 19th Merdeka Day Sand Castle Competitio­n.

Team KV Junior took the first prize for youth category with 344 points while in second place was KV Warrior (330 points) and Visual UMK third (322 points). The fourth prize went to Team 18th Scout Tawau (302 points).

In the society category, the team from Tawau Federation of Chinese Associatio­n Youth Section took the first prize with 352 points while the second prize went to Tawau Fook Chow Associatio­n (349 points) and third prize to Tawau Sze Yip Residentia­l with 334 points. Taking the fourth prize was Tawau Teo Chew Associatio­n (325 points) and Tawau Hakka Associatio­n (311 points) the fifth prize.

In the open category, the top winner was Team KT6 A with 345 points while the second prize went to Team Tawau Pu Zhao Shi Lion Dance Troupe with 344 points and third prize went to Team Rela A (339 points). Taking the fourth prize was Team Otai KV Star 1 (338 points).

The sand castle competitio­n was jointly organised by the Tawau Hokkien Associatio­n Youth and Tawau Municipal Council at Batu Payung Beach, Tinagat Road here in celebratio­n of Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day.

Organising chairman Jacky Hiew said marks in the competitio­n were based on art (25 per cent), skill (25 per cent), design (25 per cent) and cooperatio­n (25 per cent).

The champions received a trophy and cash prize of RM300, the first runner-up received RM200 cash prize and a trophy, and the second runner-up RM100 cash prize and a trophy. The fourth prize winner received a trophy only.
