-

SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Pink Ribbon committee which had been operating since 2006, is officially registered as the Sandakan Breast Cancer Support Association.

According to its president Mary Alex Mansiw, the Sandakan Pink Ribbon committee had worked with various activities under Hospital Duchess of Kent here. The committee had also worked with Kinabalu Pink Ribbon Association for two years in 2014 and 2016.

“The main objectives of the association are to carry out breast cancer awareness campaigns to provide information and education on breasts health to the community in Sandakan, including those living in the rural areas. This includes providing talks, forums and exhibitions on breast cancer as well as clinical treatment sessions in collaboration with the hospital and other organisations.

“The organisation also aims to assist and provide moral support to breast cancer patients and family members. We also hope that we will be able to provide welfare assistance to patients in need,” she said.

A charity dinner will be held in conjunction with Pink October 2017 as well as to launch the organisation on October 7, at the Sabah Hotel here at 6.30pm.

The dinner will be held to raise funds for the association and it will be graced by Batu Sapi parliament member Datuk Linda Tsen.
