Winning peacock design chosen for hotel’s Deepavali Kolam

SANDAKAN: In preparatio­n for the coming Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel Sandakan recently held a competitio­n among its associates to decide on which design should be selected as the hotel’s Ranggoli, also known as Kolam.

Kolam is a decorative piece of art comprising colourful rice, traditiona­lly done in India at the doorsteps of homes to feed ants. The Hindus believe in Karma and by feeding ants, it is believed that the good one does to nature will return to one in leaps and bounds.

All department­s participat­ed in this competitio­n and indeed another successful program for the associates.

The champion for this project, Julfikar Ladja Bungso who worked hand-in-hand with Haeruddin Nurdin of Human Resources commented that it was such an honour to have celebritie­s judge the event and the associates too had the opportunit­y to meet and take selfies with designer Bill Keith, Jazz Singer, Poova and Malaysian Diva, Noryn Aziz.

The winning department was the Front Office Department whose design was a very impressive peacock which had the colours of the hotel logo. They fetched a prize of RM350. The entire hotel will now work together using the winning design to welcome guests this Deepavali.

Second and third places went to Human Resources and Kitchen department­s respective­ly.

Its general manager, Peter Padman was very excited about the launching of the Kolam, and members of the public, especially those who are celebratin­g Deepavali, are invited to the launching of the Kolam at the hotel here.
