Politics should focus on better future for children – Raymond

- By Rebecca Chong

SANDAKAN: Politics is not about who becomes the Deputy Prime Minister; it is not about criticising whether a leader is at fault for certain past mistakes. Politics is beyond all that because politics should focus on what kind of future we are leaving for the future generation.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Raymond Tan Shu Kiah pointed this out when launching the Parti Gerakan Sandakan annual general meeting luncheon here yesterday.

“Seeing the changes and development we are enjoying today, I wonder what kind of future our children and grandchildren are going to enjoy. In politics, we should focus on this: leaving a peaceful, stable and good future for our next generation to enjoy 50 years to come, and not leaving problems for them to solve.

“Blaming leaders for past mistakes will not create a better future for our children. Leaders will change. However, we could provide a peaceful and stable future for our children by having good planning from good political institution.

“In politics, we should put all our energy and focus on the future, that is what we could do for our children,” he said.

Tan who is also the Minister of Industrial Development, later held a press conference and told reporters that he opined that the Barisan Nasional and the opposition should come up with the best plan for the future.

“Some parties were telling the people that a Sabahan should be the Deputy Prime Minister. But for me, in politics, it is not for such a small issue. For me, the main ideology in politics should be about providing a better future for our children. I challenge the opposition, see who could come up with the best plan for our future,” he said.

Tan also said the TN50 (Transfomasi Nasional 2050) which was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Tun Najib Abdul Razak, was a good plan for the future.

TN50 is an initiative to plan for the future of Malaysia in the period of 2020 to 2050 which will serve as a national discourse series geared towards forming a calibre nation state as well as with par excellent mind-set.

Tan is the assemblyman for Tanjung Papat and the vice president of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Malaysian People’s Movement Party).

Over 450 Parti Gerakan Sandakan members were present at the event yesterday.
