845 participate in World Pharmacists Day run
KOTA KINABALU: Yesterday marked a special day for Sabah pharmacists as they organised the first ever World Pharmacists Day 1km Run in conjunction with World Pharmacists Day globally.
The event themed ‘Fight the Resistance’ was jointly organised by Sabah Pharmaceutical Society and Sabah Health Department Pharmaceutical Services Division.
About 845 participants joined the run which started off with Zumba dance before the run was flagged off by State Health Director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi.
The runners were escorted by traffic police and recorded live on video by Sabah Amateur Radio Society (SARS).
One of the highlights at the prize presentation ceremony was the giving of a RM5,000 mock cheque to two charitable organisations, namely Starfish Foundation Malaysia and Kota Kinabalu Widows Welfare Association Sabah.
The public joined the fun by buying food from trucks and stalls, as well as doing some health screening, face painting and other activities.
Chief executive officer of WSG Development, Datuk Susan Wong, also gave her support by being part of the run, completing the 10km race as well as being the main attire sponsor.
Also present at the event were Commonwealth Pharmacists Association Council member Datuk Nancy Ho, past president of Sabah Pharmaceutical Society cum secretary general of Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Yee That Hian, Sabah Widower’s Association president Lina Chin and committee member Angie Lai.
