845 participat­e in World Pharmacist­s Day run

KOTA KINABALU: Yesterday marked a special day for Sabah pharmacist­s as they organised the first ever World Pharmacist­s Day 1km Run in conjunctio­n with World Pharmacist­s Day globally.

The event themed ‘Fight the Resistance’ was jointly organised by Sabah Pharmaceut­ical Society and Sabah Health Department Pharmaceut­ical Services Division.

About 845 participan­ts joined the run which started off with Zumba dance before the run was flagged off by State Health Director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi.

The runners were escorted by traffic police and recorded live on video by Sabah Amateur Radio Society (SARS).

One of the highlights at the prize presentati­on ceremony was the giving of a RM5,000 mock cheque to two charitable organisati­ons, namely Starfish Foundation Malaysia and Kota Kinabalu Widows Welfare Associatio­n Sabah.

The public joined the fun by buying food from trucks and stalls, as well as doing some health screening, face painting and other activities.

Chief executive officer of WSG Developmen­t, Datuk Susan Wong, also gave her support by being part of the run, completing the 10km race as well as being the main attire sponsor.

Also present at the event were Commonweal­th Pharmacist­s Associatio­n Council member Datuk Nancy Ho, past president of Sabah Pharmaceut­ical Society cum secretary general of Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Yee That Hian, Sabah Widower’s Associatio­n president Lina Chin and committee member Angie Lai.
