IPOH: The roar of 250 motorcycle engines of the ‘The Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride' (DGR), a charity convoy of vintage motorcycles, enlivens the city of Ipoh yesterday.

A display of vintage motorcycle brands such as the Triumph, BSA M20, Harley Davidson, Vespa Lv 150 and Chopper, were seen in the convoy that was held for the first time in Perak.

The convoy in Perak was jointly organised by Throttle Riot and Perak British Classic Motorcycle Club. The DGR convoy was also held concurrently in 600 countries worldwide to raise funds for prostate cancer patients.

Programme coordinator Ezzad Elias said 300 people took part in the convoy around Ipoh which involved 23 kilometres of travel.

"The convoy will have four pit stops, namely, Taman Rekreasi Gunung Lang, Karat Cafe, Ipoh Railway Station and M Roof Hotel to raise funds and promote awareness on the dangers of prostate cancer,” he told reporters here.

Ezzad said they expect to collect at least more than RM60,000 from the participants and members of the public throughout the convoy as well as through their official website, The Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride.

The proceeds would be handed over to a foundation in Australia that was responsible for helping prostate cancer patients and conduct studies to cure the disease.
