MMT Junior top Group B with biggest win
KOTA KINABALU: Debutants MMT Junior sounded an early warning to their rivals in the Borneo Football Cup Under11 competition at Penampang Stadium yesterday.
MMT Junior which comprise players from Interior of Sabah and trained with Akademi Tunas Keningau registered the biggest win on the opening day of the competition.
After opening with a 2-1 win over TABS Manggatal, MMT Junior claimed an impressive 9-0 win over Kid Ball in their second group fixture.
The huge win allowed MMT Junior to top Group B courtesy of superior goal difference over Dreaming Football United of the Philippines, who also won both their matches.
Dreaming Football United defeated TABS Manggatal 5-1 and Kid Ball 3-1 to set up a potential mouth-watering clash with MMT Junior today in the race to qualify for the next round as group winners.
In Group A, Astam SS of Indonesia are top on six points after beating Caloundra of Australia 2-0 and TABS 3-0 respectively.
Caloundra trail in second place with three points from their 5-0 win over Jubilo while TABS’s inferior goal difference saw them settle for third with the win coming from a 2-0 outcome against Jubilo.
The competition will continue with the third and last group fixtures this morning at the same venue before the semifinals for Silver (third and fourth placed teams) and Gold (first and second placed teams) take centre stage in the afternoon
The champion of the under11 category will be crowned tomorrow at the Likas Stadium here.
The annual tournament organised by Sabah former Aussie’s striker Scott Olleranshaw’s Borneo Sports and Adventure Holidays also features the under-12, under-13, under-14, under-15 and under-16 competitions.
It is aimed at raising the standard of the sport for junior players in Sabah.
