SBAI Indonesia win football title

SBAI Indonesia have been crowned the champions in the Under-14 category of the Borneo Football Cup (BFC) compe on.

KOTA KINABALU: SBAI Indonesia have been crowned the champions in the Under-14 category of the Borneo Football Cup (BFC) competitio­n.

The final, which was held at the Likas Stadium, saw SBAI Indonesia edge HJKFL Hong Kong 1-0 to clinch the title in this 10th edition of the annual tournament.

SBAI Indonesia’s main striker, Kasma Manggala, scored the solitary goal in the first half. The victory helped to redeem the team’s earlier defeat (1-0) to the same opponent in the group stage.

A total of eight teams competed in the Under-14 competitio­n, which started on October 1.

St George Australia finished third after beating PSW Academy Thailand 1-0 in the play-offs, while Datuk Peter Mojuntin Sports School (DPM) beat Lalor United SC Australia 1-0 in the match for fifth and sixth placing.

Dreaming Football United from the Philippine­s placed seventh after they beat local side Tabs Kota Kinabalu 4-1 in an earlier match.

The Under-14 competitio­n was one of six categories featured in the BFC tournament, which was organised by Borneo Sports and Adventure Holidays.

The BFC kicked off on September 24 with the Under-11 category, which was won by Dreaming Football United. Tabs Kota Kinabalu emerged the champion in the Under-12 category, while Turf City Singapore won the Under-13 title.

Two more competitio­ns remain and they are the Under-15 and Under-16 categories. Eight teams are competing in the Under15 category, which kicked-off with the group fixtures at the Penampang Stadium yesterday.

Tabs Menggatal are in Group A along with SBAI Indonesia, JJ FC Malaysia and Akademi Bola Sepak Labuan, while Group B comprises PSW Academy Thailand, Datuk Peter Mojuntin Sports School, Tabs Kota Kinabalu and SMK Kinarut.

The fixtures continue at the same venue today, while the final day matches will be held at the Likas Stadium. Meanwhile, the Under-16 category is scheduled to start from October 5 to 7.
