Successful sustainable development possible through BN — Maximus
KOTA MARUDU: Successful sustainable development for a constituency can only be achieved with the participation and cooperation from its people, especially from the grassroots level.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili in saying this however pointed out that development projects were not the responsibility of the government alone, as corporate sector, the communities and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) must also play their roles.
“Hence, close working relationship between the people and the government is crucial.
“The utmost objective of development politics is to improve the livelihood of the people so that tomorrow can be better than today, and today can be better than yesterday,” added the Kota Marudu member of parliament at the meet-the-people session for Mukim Talantang at Kampung Talantang 2 here, recently.
He said it was vital for the people to continue supporting the ruling Barisan Nasional to ensure the needs of all constituents were fulfilled.
“That is why it is important that to achieve effective development, the rakyat must support BN, a coalition that has always delivered, despite being imperfect,” he said.
He also said that Kota Marudu had developed in leaps and bounds over the last decade, be it physical development in the town area, agriculture and infrastructure such as roads and basic facilities.
“We have seen impressive development taking place in remote areas such as Kampung Gana.
“Having said that, there is still room for improvements and a lot needs to be done. This is possible if we maintain the existing close rapport with the government ... so that Kota Marudu can continue to grow and catch up with more developed district in Sabah,” he said.
Meanwhile, apart from the meet-the-people programme, Maximus also visited and presented aid to the elderly and people with disabilities here, and officiated at sports activities here.
