Upko Youth tells opposition to be responsible politicians
PENAMPANG: United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organization (Upko) Penampang Youth chief Carls Moonsom slammed the opposition leaders in the district for using the recent flash flood in the area to gain cheap political mileage.
He said pointing fingers to the Barisan Nasional (BN) government for the recent occurence of the flash flood in Penampang only proved that the opposition leaders were only good in making noise and steer hatred of the local populace against BN.
“The opposition leaders are quick to put the blame on the ruling BN administration whenever calamities happen ... yet these politicians never extend helping hands or provide genuine ideas on how to further address the problem amongst others,” Carls said.
Instead, he said the opposition would normally portrait themselves to the people as the ‘better men’ with empty promises as compared to the BN leaders who are doing their utmost to protect the interest and welfare of every Sabahan.
“These kind of politicians are only good in making complaints yet never bother to be part of the solution ... let’s not forget that it is better to be part of the solution than be part of the problem,” the disappointed Upko Youth Chief stressed.
In explaining the flood situation in Penampang, Carls said the State Government through its Penampang LGU (local government unit) were working hard to complete all ongoing expansion of flood drains in the district.
“The Penampang District Council started works on the various expansion flood drainage projects since late 2015 ... however, some works were delayed due to unpredictable weather conditions. The council is hopeful that the projects will be completed soon,” he stressed.
Carls said he was also closely monitoring the developements of the Moyor River Flood Mitigation Plan which when completed will benefit everybody.
“No one wants to experience the incoveniences of flash flood and it is for this very reason that the Penampang District Council is doing its utmost to complete all the projects without further delays,” he stressed.
Finally, he urged the local populace in Sabah, particularly residents of Penampang, to prolong their patience a little longer because the authorities concerned together with the other leaders of the ruling government under the good leadership of Tan Seri Musa Aman are doing its very best to once and for all address the flash flood problem here.
Recently, Moyog assemblyman Terrence Siambun claimed that the local authority in Penampang had failed time and again to settle the flood problems in the district.
He also said that it was hypocritical for the State BN leaders to continue saying that ‘development and progress’ is assured under the BN.
Terrence also wondered as to what happened to the allocation of some RM400 million that was to go into the Moyog River Flood Mitigation Plan.
