LABUAN: Two enterprising youths - Mohamad Rosli Ramani, 25, and Nur Faiz Anuar, 25, - found it best to capitalise on Labuan’s white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, stunning islands, and marvelous scenery in their business venture.

Mohamad Rosli of Kg Bebuloh Laut, a sea village, and Nur Faiz of Kg Bukit Kuda realised of Labuan’s immense tourism potential and hence in 2015 set up their exclusive adventure outfit – SS Speed Boat Enterprise.

The funding for the enterprise came from their own pockets and for the rest of the capital they depended on the panoramic beauty of the Island in South China Sea.

However, their story is not about making money solely for themselves. It is about helping to develop the island’s tourism potential and giving back to the local community. It is also about ensuring environmental friendly

They are the tourism entrepreneurs who play a vital part in transforming the supply of services in Labuan’s leisure and recreational sector.

tourism.

The young entrepreneurs see that the water sport activities, camping, trekking, and island hopping rides they offer also complement the activities of other hospitality industry players – homestay operators, tourists guides, hoteliers and etc.

“We are bringing in the inflatable water theme park here this year, this is the first of its kind in Borneo, and we believe this water sport activity will add another tourism product for Labuan,” said Rosli adding that the Sea Sport International Complex that is popular with weekend activities has been identified as the suitable location for the mobile water theme park. Both believe in providing a variety of activities for the holiday makers.

As they always believed that first impression on the holiday makers counts, the duo go the extra mile in providing services to holiday makers and in highlighting the many beautiful aspects of the island, above and below the water.

They also encourage visitors to take up adventure based activities whenever there is opportunity.

They take visitors for thrilling adventures underwater with their snokerling gear or bring them to explore the enchanting islands like Rusukan Kecil, Rusukan Besar, Kuraman and Pulau Papan.

Labuan Tourism Centre (Tourism Malaysia) manager Nor Hidayah Mohd Nor said the duo’s contribution would help in the efforts to spur the island’s tourism activities.

“They are playing a pivotal role in helping to ensure tourism in Labuan grows in a sustainable manner in the years ahead,” she said.

She said the tourism business is one of the largest, fastest growing sector in the island. The sector is helping to create jobs and business activities,

“They are the tourism entrepreneurs who play a vital part in transforming the supply of services in Labuan’s leisure and recreational sector,” she said.

If the holiday makers’ testimony is anything to go by, Mohd Rosli and Nur Faiz are certainly keeping up with their promise of providing a memorable holiday for the visitors and enhance the island’s image as an upcoming tourist hotspot.

“It was so great being with SS Speed Boat Enterprise team as they were very professional and the team is efficient in providing service. I am very satisfied with their way of dealing with the travelers and I enjoyed a lot and certainly look forward to be with the team again,” said a traveler from China, John Lee, 48.

“For me, it is an incredible experience. I really had a good time and made a lot of friends. What the team is doing is really amazing. I personally really appreciate what they are doing, especially the initiative that they have taken and the resources they are putting in.

“It is amazing of what they are doing for this island and the society,” said his friend Monica Ann, 33. For Mohamad Rosli and Nur Faiz, their contributions go a long way in the development of Labuan’s tourism sector.
