Universal Motors raises money for widower

-

PAPAR: Universal Motors (UM) Sdn Bhd raised more than RM5,000 during its UM Sports Club Event - Recreational Day 2017 cum annual dinner at Beringgis Resort, Papar on Saturday to help Miki Barnadus, who lost his wife during a tragic accident in August this year.

“One of the missions of this event is to help the less fortunate members of our society. The theme of this event is ‘To love your neighbour as yourself’,” UM managing director Chok Yun Kiong, said.

After losing his beloved wife, Miki was thrown into a financial dilemma as he became the sole breadwinner to his three children, aged eight, 12 and 15.

“Since we (as employees of UM) are very blessed, we must also likewise bless Miki’s family by giving generously. Our target was to raise RM5,000 from all of us tonight. The management of UM had already raised a total of RM2,000,” Chok said.

Later that night, Chok announced that the entire UM staff together with UM’s management had collected more than RM5,000 for Miki’s family.

On August 13, this year, Miki’s wife, Yuli Yunus, died while carrying out a humanitarian mission to send aid to a group of orphans in Kampung Lingan Lama, Papar. The van that she was in was hit by a huge flash flood just as it was about to cross the river.

The family’s financial commitments, which was previously borne by Yuli, now has fallen on to Miki, who currently does not have a proper job.

To make matters even worse, two of Miki’s children, Marklester and Mcellen are set to sit for their Form Three Assessment (PT3) test and Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) examination respectively, this year.

Meanwhile, the Hawaiianthemed company’s dinner witnessed the friendly competition between the various branches of UM in the state, while the staff of UM entertained the crowd with their creative and energetic dancing and singing performances.

UM Kota Kinabalu took home RM2,000 after they were crowned winners of the inter-branch performance competition, while UM Keningau and UM Tawau, finished second and third respectively.

“One of the aims of this programme is to develop a strong relationship between the employees of UM. Some of you (the staff) may not even know the person who is sitting next to you. Thus, by organising this team building programme, employees from the different branches can get to know each other better,” Chok asserted.
