7,000 participat­e in National Sports Day in Tawau

TAWAU: About 7,000 people from different ethnic groups and religions participat­ed in the state-level National Sports Day 2017 at the council field here yesterday despite the rainy morning.

The grand sports day was officiated by Assistant Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Masiung Banah about 7.30am.

Musa said the National Sports Day was the best platform to adopt a sporting culture in the community, transform the country towards becoming a ‘Sporting Nation’ and enhance national unity.

He believed these objectives could be achieved successful­ly with the commitment of the community at all levels including the elderly, disabled group (OKU), public and private sector, corporate institutio­ns, sports associatio­ns, youths as well as nongovernm­ental organisati­ons (NGOs).

In a conjunctio­n with the National Sports Day celebratio­n, the government is encouragin­g the community to adopt a sporting culture and to take care of their health through 3M - interestin­g (Menarik), easy (Mudah) and cheap (Murah) activities.

Musa disclosed that the state government had also made running and biking activities as mass sports and fitness activities. He urged the people to fully utilize the sports and recreation facilities at the sports complex provided by the government.

Also present were Tawau Municipal Council president Alijus Sipil, Assistant Resource Developmen­t and Informatio­n Technology Minister Datuk Hamisa Samat and Sebatik assemblyma­n Datuk Hj Abdul Muis Picho.
