Elusive glue-sniffing addict who burned vehicles arrested

-

PAPAR: Police have finally arrested an elusive glue-sniffing addict who had caused havoc by burning four public vehicles, including a motorcycle, in Papar town last month.

District police chief DSP Ladamah Sulaiman said police detained the 27-year-old suspect at an unnumbered house in Papar on September 25.

The suspect was involved in setting fire on a Perodua Kancil, a Proton Saga FLX, a Proton Saga Iswara and a Modenas motorcycle that were parked at several public car parks in the town between September 21 and 24.

He said the suspect, believed to be high on glue, would throw a bag containing petrol towards the vehicles and setting them on fire before fleeing the scene.

“Following a tip-off and continuous investigation, police apprehended the suspect at a house around 8pm on September 25. “The police also confiscated a Yamaha LC motorcycle that was used by the suspect,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

The four vehicles were estimated to worth RM56,000, said Ladamah, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code.

Police have also arrested six men for stealing Telekom Malaysia (TM) cables worth RM29,000.

Ladamah said the suspects, in their 20s and 30s, were arrested in separate operations around Papar on September 29.

He said the suspects were involved in stealing TM cables at Jalan Langkawi between September 19 and 25.

Two of the suspects were former convicts and all the suspects had been charged in court for their crimes under Section 379 of the Penal Code, he said.
