Women can play role in safeguardi­ng peace, security

TENOM: Tenom Umno Wanita chief Datuk Rahmahjan Sulaiman Khan said women, especially housewives, Are the right people to channel informatio­n to the police because they are always at home and know the neighbours.

“Hence they deserve the mandate to prevent local crimes by reporting to the police any suspicious developmen­ts or activities in their neighbourh­oods,” she said when officiatin­g at the District Police Headquarte­rs Community Policing Program and the Launching of Amanita at Kallang housing estate here yesterday.

Rahmahjan said the mandate given to housewives was very timely because of the nature and instinct of a woman who wanted to be safe and secure.

She described the community policing program and the launch of Amanita of the district police headquarte­rs as a pure and committed effort towards creating a peaceful and conducive environmen­t for the benefit and common good, especially among women.

Rahmahjan said the selection of the housing estate was based on the good cooperatio­n given by the local community to the police so far, including channellin­g criminal informatio­n.

“With the selection of Kallang housing estate as the pioneer of this program in this district, it will provide an opportunit­y for the Safe Women Squad or Amanita to interact with housewives in this area.

“I want to remind and hope the women, especially housewives, will continue to be the eyes and ears of the police, by channellin­g any relevant informatio­n, as it is the most effective way to prevent crime,” she said.

She believes that women or housewives today are not just about managing the household, but are also believed to play a role in safeguardi­ng peace and security.

Rahmahjan also highly praised the district police headquarte­rs for its service and sacrifice to safeguard and maintain the security of this area.

According to her, police records on the security situation in Tenom was regulated and the crime index recorded a decline.

“Well done and congratula­tions for all the proactive approaches implemente­d,” she said.

“On behalf of the leadership of the Tenom Umno Wanita, I would like to express our willingnes­s and our commitment, together with the police and other security forces, to create a peaceful atmosphere in our area.

“We will always support any program that is aimed at creating a prosperous environmen­t for the community,” she said.

Also present were district police chief Deputy Superinten­dent Mohd Firdaus Francis Abdullah, Assistant District Officer Kassim Haji Yunus, senior police officers, Amanita, and community leaders.
