Scout movement good way to shape young M’sians — Pang
TAWAU: Joining the scout movement is a good way to shape young Malaysians into becoming a co-operative society.
The scout movement as an educational institution enables youths of various races to become members, and they are required to work as a team.
Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Pang Yuk Ming said he had learned a lot as a member of the movement during his school days and the same could be done today by the younger generation if they abide by the scout’s motto.
The founder of the movement demanded that a scout should always be ready to shoulder the responsibilities entrusted to them as members, Pang said when closing the 60th World Jamboree On the Air (JOTA) and 21st Jamboree On the Internet (JOTI) program held at SM Holy Trinity yesterday.
He said times are changing and members must therefore change with the time so that they can serve better and effectively.
Pang also praised the district movement for uniting of young Malaysians of various races in a single purpose as it mirrored the unified nation.
Tawau district currently has over 10,000 registered members led by Commissioner Zone 1 and Commissioner for the district, Lee Chee Kiong.
Also present at the ceremony was state commissioner Sukran Nalamin.
