Father of young footballer appeals for funds for son’s UK studies

-

LIMBANG: Muhammad Yusry Haziq Idris, a Limbangian who was among two young football players in Malaysia selected for the Million Dollar Feet (MDF) programme, needs extra funds to continue his education in United Kingdom in January next year.

His father Idris Ismail, 47, said his son needs RM30,000 to finance additional costs for his two-year studies in the UK.

He said although Muhammad Yusry, 15, was awarded a full scholarship of RM500,000 from Brooke House College Academy (BHFCA) for the duration of the study, he still requires RM30,000 to pay for other related expenses.

Among the expenses are examination fees, return flight tickets to the UK, transportation as well as other fees not covered by the scholarship.

“I appeal to the state government, Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) and the private sector to help raise RM30,000 for my son to go to the UK in January next year.

“I am appealing for donations because I am not able to raise the money myself as I have been unable to work since suffering a stroke five years ago,” said Idris during a discussion with exco members of Limbang Football Association (LFA) here yesterday.

Also present were LFA deputy president Alidin @ Brahim Tawar, LFA vice president Bulhaji Wahab and LFA honorary secretary Abdul Ajis Kon Mohd Ghazali.

Idris added that FAS had earlier pledged RM10,000 to help finance Muhammad Yusry’s expenses to the UK.

Meanwhile, Alidin said he fully supported Muhammad Yusry’s determination in taking part in the MDF programme to gain experience from renowned football clubs in Europe.

Muhammad Yusry and Adam Roshan from Kuala Lumpur were selected to represent Malaysia after successfully defeating other players in the MDF Grand Finals last year at the Royal Selangor Club.
