KOTA KINABALU: Four hundred schools were selected for the third cohort of the School Transformation Programme 2025 (TS25), which will commence in the coming year.

Education Ministry Teacher Education Division director Datuk Mahmud Karim said the third cohort of schools raised the overall number of selected schools nationwide to 600, since the first cohort last year.

“This programme is now in its third cohort after the first and second, each involving 100 selected schools, comprising both primary and secondary schools.

“In East Malaysia alone, 88 schools were chosen for this cohort with 40 from Sabah, 43 from Sarawak and five from Labuan,” he told reporters after closing yesterday’s TS25 Programme Colloquium 2017 for Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

He said the TS25 programme was part of the MOE initiative to produce excellent human capital.

Through a fun learning environment, visionary leadership, competent teaching staff and community commitment, I am confident the effort can be fully realised, Mahmud said.

“There are five training modules and the next one depends on each school’s transformation plan and what they wish to achieve, as long as it is related to students’ achievement.

“We hope the selected schools will embrace this programme and work in tandem with parentteacher associations (PTAs) and the community to ensure its success,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sabah Education Department director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul said the achievements of earlier cohorts proved to be encouraging and shows the efficacy of the TS25 programme.

She expressed the hope that input shared through the programme will continue to be applied and circulated throughout the schools as well as the public at large.

The three-day programme, which began on Monday and ended yesterday, was joined by 150 participants comprising school principals from all over the East Malaysia zone.

Also present at yesterday’s closing ceremony was Sabah Education Department deputy director Datuk Mohd Kassim Ibrahim.
