KUALA LUMPUR: Dubbed the ‘Malaysian Angels’, eight Malaysian women golfers are ready to prove their capabilities against the top guns in the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2017.

They are Kelly Tan, Michelle Koh, Aretha Pan, Nur Durriyah Damian and four national players, Natasha Andrea Onn, Winnie Ng, Zulaikah Nur Zaina Nasser and Liyana Azizan Durasic.

This is the third time Malaysia has sent a large contingent in the tournament.

Leading the charge among the eight Malaysians in this year’s field is the 23-year-old LPGA Tour pro, Kelly Tan.

Despite enduring a difficult year on the LPGA Tour in 2017, she hopes that with home advantage, she can rediscover the kind of form she is capable of.

“I’ve been playing pretty good the past couple of events. The results just haven’t really showed. I’m going to take this week as building up my confidence. Feeling pretty good with my past couple days of practice here,” she told reporters during a press conference here yesterday.

“For me, it is all about stay patient this week and we (the Malaysian Angels) want to do well. This is so much about resultbased, so we will rather focus one shot at a time.”

Meanwhile, amateur golfer Ng is all set to rub shoulders with the best of the world in the competition.

The 17-year-old is looking forward to this tournament which includes defending champion Feng Shanshan of China.

“I want to practise playing under pressure, especially with the professional players. Hopefully, I can gauge valuable knowledge playing with the pros. Definitely feel a bit nervous and obviously feel very excited at the same time,” said Ng, who is making her second appearance in the tournament.
