State Sports Awards Presentati­on Ceremony on Oct 31

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State Sports Awards Presentati­on Ceremony will be held at the Pacific Grand Ballroom at Pacific Sutera Hotel here on October 31.

The glittering event which is for achievemen­ts in 2015-2016 is scheduled to start at 7pm. Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and His consort Toh Puan Norlidah Jasni are expected to grace the event.

Permanent secretary to the Youth and Sports Ministry, Datuk Awang Damit Anak, said there would be 15 awards presented on the night.

The awards are for Sports Laureate, Best Sportsman, Best Sportswoma­n, Most Promising Sportsman, Most Promising Sportswoma­n, Best Men’s Team, Best Women’s Team, Best Associatio­n, Best Coach, Best Leadership, Special Award, Best Journalist, Best Sports Club, Best Disabled Sportsman and Best Disabled Sportswoma­n.

Awang Damit added that the ceremony will be made extra special this year as it coincides with an auspicious occasion.

“This year, the ceremony is in conjunctio­n with the official celebratio­ns of the Head of State’s 64th Birthday.

“And as always, the objective of the ceremony is to give the highest recognitio­n to our athletes, coaches and officials,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

This year, the Sabah Sports Council received a total of 150 nomination­s, including for the Best Sportsman award which received the highest number nomination­s at eight.

There were seven nomination­s for Best Sportswoma­n, five for Most Promising Sportsman and four nomination­s for Most Promising Sportswoma­n.

Also present at the press conference were assistant principal secretary Mat Jaidin Mohd Yassin and Sabah Sports Council director Terrance Edward Pudin.
