Woman dies after jumping out of vehicle

-

KOTA KINABALU: A woman succumbed to head injuries after she jumped out of a moving fourwheel drive vehicle while arguing with her boyfriend.

Papar police chief Deputy Supt Ladamah Sulaiman said the incident happened on the Papar road last Friday and police had detained an engineer in Sipitang about 9.15am on Monday.

It is learnt that the 20-year-old woman got to know the engineer in his 30s, through the social messaging application WeChat about two months ago.

“We managed to track him down following witness accounts,” he said at a press conference last evening.

He said investigations revealed that the couple got into an argument when travelling from Kota Kinabalu to Papar. When they reached a junction about 11.30pm, the woman jumped out of the moving vehicle and sustained severe head injuries.

“The suspect then left the woman by the roadside and sped off, but witnesses managed to take down the vehicle’s plate number,” he said, adding the man is suspected to have been drunk at that time.

Ladamah said the victim was sent to the Papar Hospital by witnesses.

She was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu yesterday morning and succumbed to her injuries there.

The suspect is under remand for murder investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
