Employers call on ministry’s permanent secretary

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Employers Associatio­n’s committee paid a courtesy call on Datuk Bruno Vun, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Resource Developmen­t and Informatio­n Technology on October 30.

The purpose of the visit was to introduce the Associatio­n to the ministry on its functions and objectives, discuss about general economic conditions post budget, and share concerns about higher labour related costs in the state, especially EIS amongst others amounting to RM77 million annually, outlay against low retrenchme­nt rates in the state with which it was enacted to address, said SEA president Yap Cheen Bon.

He said the committee expressed hope that with Bruno being appointed into the Minimum Wage Consultati­ve Council, he would strive for a balanced tri-partite view on the issue of Minimum Wage for Sabah, particular­ly ensuring that there is real, effective representa­tion for Sabahan employers.

It was agreed that with current education/training programmes in place should be aligned with industry/employers’ needs; in line with today’s evolving economic scene in the state.

Yap said the Associatio­n expressed a desire to work together with the Ministry in TVET programmes to re-skill, up-skill Sabah’s labour forces to increase productivi­ty and efficiency.

Among the visitors from SEA were deputy president David Chu, secretary general Fong Ming San and treasurer Johnson Dai.
