1M4U Volunteer Program to start at 140 schools
PUTRAJAYA: The Sukarelawan Sekolah Malaysia 1 M4U Programme to be carried out through a collaboration with 1Malaysia For Youth (1M4U) and the Education Ministry, will start at 140 schools throughout the country said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.
Ali Hamsa said 10 schools in each state will be involved in the programme, in line with a vision to enhance the spirit of volunteerism among teenagers whose ages range from 13 to 17, compared with the initial focus of the 1M4U which was aligned to those in the 18 to 40 age group category.
"Through the programme, activities with a concept of volunteerism would be introduced in schools when carrying out cocurriculum activities," he said when launching the Sukarelawan Sekolah Malaysia 1M4U Programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 16(1), here yesterday.
Also present were Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad and 1M4U chief executive Rudy Malik.
Ali Hamsa said since its inception in 2012 about three million volunteers had signed up with 1M4U, which is an initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy.
“The youth are the future of Malaysia and its imperative that we develop our young ones to be socially conscious and are willing to lend a hand in volunteerism in various activities. The activities are not meant to create volunteerism among youths but enhance unity among the communities,” he said.
He added that the objective was to build a united and caring society that will give rise to leaders of tomorrow plus nurture and encourage the growth of volunteerism in the hearts of youth.
Among the high impact programmes carried out by 1M4U include repairing houses of the poor, the Better City Programme to upgrade public amenities and Go Green Programme to plant trees.
