Sibu-based company praised for introducing biodegradable plastic bags
KAPIT: A homegrown company has been praised for coming up with biodegradable products that promote and underline the importance of protecting the environment.
Sibu-based ACG Green Tech Sdn Bhd not only manufactures biodegradable plastic bags, but also the all-natural ‘serai wangi’ (citronella) spray that works just as effective as any regular, chemical-laden aerosol insecticide.
Recently the company, in collaboration with Kapit District Council (KDC), conducted an awareness talk on biodegradable plastic bags at the community hall in Kampung Muhibbah Jalan Bleteh here, where the majority of the participants were food operators, traders and micro-retailers.
Representing ACG Green Tech as the speaker at the session was Christina Nawi.
Kapit Walikota Councillor Philimon Nuing, who attended the seminar, said the programme was one of the council’s many initiatives to promote clean and safe environment.
“At the same time, it adheres to the government’s call for the ban against the usage of plastic bags and ‘styrofoam’ (polystyrene containers).
“The council’s environmental awareness programmes under the ‘Go Rural Policy’ have been on-going since 1996. The most recent activity was the recycling campaign ‘3R – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle that involved twinning programmes with several primary schools in Kapit District namely SK Kampung Baru and SK Methodist, SJK Hock Lam, as well as the St Mary Immaculate Conception Church,” he said.
On ACG Green Tech, Philimon commended the company for taking the step to run the talk but specifically, he hailed ACG Green Tech on its move to introduce a great product.
“I am glad that ACG Green Tech has come up with this biodegradable plastic bag, which would help a lot in the fight against pollution and moreover, it is a safe and costeffective measure in that it is proven to present no side effect to the users,” he said.
The ACG Green Tech outlet at No 1, Lorong Chiew Siik Hiong 1A in Sibu was jointly declared open by Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh and Dudong assemblyman Datuk Tiong Thai King, who is also Sibu Municipal Council chairman, on Oct 22 this year.
