Many want to see me in prison – Dr M

PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has responded to the Selangor Royal Council, that called for action to be taken against him for allegedly insulting the Bugis community, saying that many people want to see him in jail.

The former prime minister said that ever since he opposed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, his critics were interested in seeing him don “orange clothes with the word lokap”.

“So this is another step towards that.

“If the police investigate, I might have to wear the yellow (orange) outfit and many will be satisfied,” he said in a video on Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Pribumi) Facebook page yesterday.

Dr Mahathir had compared the Bugis community to pirates during the “Love Malaysia, End Kleptocracy” rally at Padang Timur on Oct 14.

He had had also claimed that Malaysia was being led by a leader descended from “Bugis pirates”, a dig at Najib.

The video response came in the wake of Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s stinging rebuke on Thursday against the Pribumi chairman for his words, as the remarks indirectly insult the ancestry of the Selangor Sultanate which is descended from the Bugis.

The Royal Council also said that an investigation and legal action under the Sedition Act 1948 or any other related law should be carried out against Dr Mahathir.
