Tighten security at all entry points call

-

KOTA KINABALU: More Immigration, customs officers and other security agents should be stationed at all entry points in Sabah to curb the movements of human traffickers, drug traffickers and terrorists, said property developer David Chan.

In making the suggestion, Kinsalaju chief executive officer cum proprietor David Chan said such measures are needed in view of the increasing number of cases reported in neighbouring countries and the existence of the ISIS terrorist group which is now posing a great threat globally.

“No one can discount the possibility that these groups of unwanted people might take advantage of the forthcoming celebrations like Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year among others to enter Sabah or make it their transit point to move to other neighbouring countries,” he said.

During auspicious occasions, Chan noted, the number of visitors coming to Sabah would normally shoot up, hence it is only logical and proper for local authorities to beef up security in the State.

Chan, who is a frequent traveller, said more stringent scrutiny of all incoming and outgoing travellers at the airports and sea ports by Immigration officers and Customs officials, police and other local authorities would be of great help to achieve the desired goals and objectives.

“The security of Sabah is not solely the responsibility of the government but also the duty of every citizen. Therefore, it is our obligation to give our total support and cooperation to all our local authorities,” he said.

“Allowing this kind of criminals to enter our country undetected by the authorities would result in numerous unnecessary problems to the society.

“Sabahans are peace loving citizens and we do not wish to see people disturbing our present atmosphere of peace,” he said.

Chan also lauded the present state and national leaders for their continued concern in ensuring that the safety, interest and welfare of every Malaysian are well protected now and in the future.
