Shafie gives witness statement over another MACC case

-

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal was called up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here again yesterday.

His lawyer Martin Tommy Durasim said Shafie was asked to give a witness statement to another case MACC was investigating.

Martin when contacted, said Shafie presented himself at the MACC Sabah office at 10am and was there for about three hours.

He said Shafie was only giving a statement as a witness in a corruption case involving a project of a public tertiary institution in Sabah.

Warisan vice-president Junz Wong, when contacted, said Shafie arrived at the MACC office here about 10am yesterday and left at 2.30pm.

“It’s true (Shafie was called again by the MACC). But Shafie went there only as a witness for another alleged corruption case. He left the MACC office after giving his statement,” said Wong.

Shafie, the Semporna Member of Parliament and former Rural and Regional Development Minister, was among those remanded by the MACC last month to facilitate investigations into the alleged embezzelment of federal funds for infrastructure development projects in Sabah for six years since 2010.

On Oct 27, Shafie was released on bail of RM100,000 with a deposit of RM80,000 after his seven days of remand by the MACC ended.
