Land revenue collection exceeds target – director
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Lands and Surveys Department collected land revenue to the tune of RM239.5 million from January to October 31 this year.
Its director, Datuk Haji Safar bin Untong, said the department had achieved 110 per cent of its target for land revenue collection.
“Our target (for land revenue collection) is RM230 million.
“We have exceeded the target with RM239.5 million collected as of October 31 this year.”
Meanwhile, Safar said the Lands and Surveys Department had also collected RM76.155 million in quit rent as of October 31, which marked 78 per cent of its target of RM80 million.
“This is a pride of the Lands and Surveys Department. It reflects our commitment to work hard in collecting government revenue,” he said during the department's declaration and signing of the corruption free pledge initiated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here yesterday.
The ceremony was witnessed by State MACC director Datuk Sazali Salbi.
The Lands and Surveys Department is the 67th government agency in Sabah which had signed the pledge.
Safar said 500 individuals out of the 1,400 staff under the Lands and Surveys Department, including department heads from all over Sabah, took the pledge before Sazali yesterday.
He said the remaining staff would take the pledge before himself.
Safar said the department fully supported the pledge and was committed to eradicate corruption in its operations and management.
He said corrupt practices would affect the image, perception and trust of the public towards the Lands and Surveys Department.
He said public perception was becoming increasingly challenging to manage due to the rapid spread of information through the electronic media.
“Such scenario requires us to deliver the best service to the people in a swift and transparent manner.”
Also present were Lands and Surveys Department deputy director (surveys) Bernard Liew Chau Min, deputy director (lands) Lee Chun Khiong and deputy director (development) Sernam Singh.
