Infrastructure Development Ministry staff take corruption-free pledge
KOTA KINABALU: Infrastructure Development Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan has urged his officers and staff to practise high integrity without compromise in order to deliver excellent services to the people.
Speaking at the free from corruption pledge assembly held at the ministry yesterday, Pairin stressed the importance of integrity in view of the ministry's huge allocation for the year 2017.
He said that the total supply allocation received by the ministry in the 2017 Budget was RM676,968,350.
The supply allocation went to the ministry (RM5,986,640), Works Department (RM198,731,360), Water Department (RM424,374,670), Sabah Railway Department (RM30,204,080) and Ports and Harbours Department (RM17,671,600), he said.
At the same time, the ministry also received RM535,594,130 in development allocation for this year. The allocation was from Federal loans amounting RM281,570,000 and from the Sabah State Fund amounting to RM254,024,130.
Hence, the total allocation received by the ministry for 2017 was RM1.212 billion, he said.
“Of course, we need officers and staff under the ministry and departments/agencies under it to be efficient, disciplined and with high integrity to ensure the projects and services that were funded using the allocation are implemented effectively and reach those targeted so that they can be enjoyed by the people,” he said.
Pairin also stressed the importance of maintaining the 90 percent and above in the Key Performance Index for the ministry.
More than 400 people took part in the pledge yesterday, which according to Pairin was one of the initiatives to steer away from involvement in corruption and abuse of power.
Also present were Assistant Infrastructure Development Ministers Datuk Bobbey Suan and Datuk Haji Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar, the ministry's permanent secretary, Datuk Michael Emban and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Sabah deputy director Hasbilah Mohamad Salleh.
