Rela urged to organise activities to attract youths

KOTA KINABALU: The People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) in Kota Kinabalu has been urged to organize more interestin­g activities to attract more participat­ion from young people.

Speaking at the cultural night organized by Rela Kota Kinabalu, assistant commission­er of Rela (ACR) Datuk Wong Chong Fah said the event was organized to entice more youths to participat­e in Rela’s activities.

He said the event could also cultivate a healthy lifestyle among members.

“Additional­ly, such programmes could build loyalty and encourage healthy competitio­n among Rela members.

“It could uncover hidden talents among the members as well,” Wong said when officiatin­g at the event on Saturday.

The cultural night was organized in conjunctio­n with the city-level Rela Family Day 2017.

Meanwhile, Sepanggar member of parliament Datuk Jumat Idris said Rela had been given increasing­ly challengin­g tasks over the years.

“Rela started off controllin­g traffic in villages, to monitoring border security at the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).

“It reflects the confidence and trust of the leadership towards the capability of Rela,” he said, adding that Rela served as a supporting team in the enforcemen­t of laws in the country.

Jumat said this when launching the Kota Kinabalu-level Rela Family Day on Sunday.

On the event, he said the family day aimed to foster closer ties among Rela members irrespecti­ve of religion and race.

Also present was Rela Kota Kinabalu officer PgR Mohd Bakry bin Md Baily.
