1Malaysia Training Scheme has benefited 138,398 graduates
KUALA LUMPUR: Up till Oct 1, a total of 138,398 graduates have benefited either directly or indirectly from the 1Malaysia Training Scheme (SL1M), says Finance Deputy Minister Datuk Othman Aziz.
He said the programme involved collaborative efforts between 22 government-linked investment companies and government-linked companies as part of corporate social responsibility, with the cost of training borne by the companies.
“Khazanah Nasional Bhd is one of the companies carrying out SL1M programmes and one of the biggest contributors to its success. In 2015 and 2016, as many as 5,160 people were trained under Khazanah SL1M Green (programme) in various fields at a total cost of RM89 million. “Of the 5,160, about 77 per cent of the participants obtained employment after completing the seven-month course which included one month in class and six months training at the office,” Othman said during the oral question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
He was replying to Datuk Hasbullah Osman (BN-Gerik) who wanted to know Khazanah Nasional’s role and contributions in SL1M in improving the marketability of its graduates since it was implemented on June 1, 2011.
Replying to a supplementary question from Dr Che Rosli Che Mat (PAS-Hulu Langat), he said Khazanah would review the training syllabus to resolve the problem of mismatch between the courses offered and job offers.
