Kemas training centre to be built soon — CM

SANDAKAN: The Community Development Department (Kemas) training centre at Taman Muhibbah, Batu 10 here will be established soon after it was delayed due to the change of Rural and Regional Development Minister.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Haji Aman said the application for the construction of the centre was approved by former Rural and Regional Development Minister Dato’ Seri Abdul Aziz Samsudin but was delayed after the change of minister.

“As for now, Taman Muhibbah Mile 10 has been developed with Taman Cahaya - a training centre for visual impaired persons. Apart from that, the government has also built the People’s Housing Project, mosque, school and sports facilities, and soon the Kemas Training Center,” he said.

“The Kemas officer at that time, the late Awang Safar, had asked for one of the best sites at Taman Muhibbah for construction of training centre and we have chosen the area on a hill measured around 6.2 acres. It has been approved by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, however, there is no response after the change of minister.

“But the construction will soon be a reality with our new minister, Dato’ Seri Ismail Sabri,” he said at the Kemas mini convocation for Libaran parliamentary level at Sri Libaran hall yesterday.

Also present were Assistant Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zakaria Haji Mohd Edris, Libaran member of parliament Datuk Juslie Haji Ajirol, Sabah Kemas director Sharul Nizam Jantan and Sandakan Municipal Council president Datuk Ir James Wong.

Over 900 children from 36 Kemas kindergartens in Libaran parliamentary constituency attended the convocation.

Musa said he appreciated Kemas’ efforts and responsibilities in educating children.

“We also hope that Kemas will continue to intensify their efforts to educate the young generation and that is the reason we develop an educational hub that has several educational institutions to enable our children to continue their studies without having to go far,” he added.

“The state government are well aware that it is our responsibility to provide education, therefore we are going to support any program or event related to education,” Musa said.

For the record, there are over 25,000 children studying at 1,485 Kemas Kindergartens throughout the state.
