KK Court Environment Working Group holds Green Run

KOTA KINABALU: The Green Run 2017, organised by the Kota Kinabalu Court Environment Working Group, is able to provide awareness on the importance of environmental care to the younger generations, said Chief Judge for Sabah and Sarawak, Tan Sri Richard Malanjum.
He said the event was held in conjunction with the court's One Heart One Tree initiative which was launched in January this year.
“The Green Run was aimed to bring environmental awareness to the people. This is an activity held in conjunction with the One Heart One Tree programme which will end on December 16 this year in Kundasang,” he said after flagging off the run at the grounds of the courthouse here yesterday.
The run kicked off from the compound of the Kota Kinabalu Court under two categories, the 11 kilometres and four kilometres run.
Richard said the 600 participants distributed 672 eucalyptus plants during the run as part of the Millennium Planting 2017 projects.
He noted that 90 per cent of the participants were youths, who could be the agents of dissemination of environmental protection awareness from one generation to another.
“Today, we see about 90 per cent of the participants are young people aged between 25 and 30 years old. Therefore, awareness of our environmental care is very important to them.
“This is because they will deliver this message to the next generation when they pass on this awareness to their children,” Richard explained.
