Neighbourhood Watch members urged to join cooperatives
KENINGAU: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup has urged members of the Neighbourhood Watch (KRT) to be more proactive in entrepreneurship such as cooperatives to generate income and bring the people out of poverty.
“The establishment of the Rukun Tetangga (RT) Cooperatives is one of the new transformations implemented by the National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) to see that the KRT are able to generate their own income and not depend on government allocation,” Kurup said.
He stated this to reporters after visiting the grey mushroom construction site in conjunction with the RT Cooperative Programme: The Empowerment of Community Service KRT Tiulon Youth Scheme Block A Berhad Cooperative in Sook here on Saturday.
Kurup, who is also Pensiangan member of parliament, said entrepreneurial activities undertaken by the KRT could be further developed with a business entity monitored and guided by government agencies through the National Blue Ocean Strategy such as the National Entrepreneurship Institute (INSKEN), the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (SKM), Malaysian Cooperative College (MKM), JPNIN and Angkasa.
During the opening ceremony of the event earlier, he presented an allocation of RM13,250 to the Tiulon Blok A Berhad Youth Scheme Cooperative for the implementation of the Sentuhan Kasih project under the RT Cooperative.
This assistance was first implemented in the Pensiangan parliamentary zone.
Kurup also visited some of the less fortunate people in the village of Mokotog in Sook and opened a multi-purpose hall, which had been built with a parliamentary allocation of RM181,000.
