KK City Hall wins Geo Innovation Award
KOTA KINABALU: The efforts of the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) in improving the efficiency of its services were not in vain when its Valuation Department project, GeoVal, received the Geo Innovation Award.
Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai received the Geo Innovation Award from Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Ir Dr Hj Hamim bin Samuri in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
GeoVal is an integrated Valuation Application system developed using Geographical Information System (GIS) technology.
The Esri Malaysia Geo Innovation Award celebrates the successes of local organizations which have creatively used geospatial technology and have made valuation contributions in improving and solving social, economic, business and environmental challenges.
Truly, GeoVal’s use of GIS technology to foster a collaborative environment between decision makers across the organisation, has set the benchmark for others looking to undertake the same initiative.
When asked to comment on this latest award won by DBKK, Yeo said that he had always encouraged his staff to work with passion and enthusiasm. In that way, working stress will be set aside and finding new ways or approaches in solving the tasks and challenges will set in.
He said that DBKK would like to record its appreciation to the State Government, especially the State Economic Planning Unit, Ministry of Finance and Chief Minister’s Department for their continuous support and encouragement without which this innovation would never be won.
During the awards ceremony and conference, DBKK’s Director of Valuation, Lifred Wong shared the inspiration, idea and the working of GeoVal. He thanked the entire management of DBKK for their support and encouragement.
He stated that DBKK’s Information Technology Department had played a meaningful role in helping his department to achieve this award. He praised his Valuation Department staff for their willingness to embrace changes and go for the extra mile to ensure that what has been planned is being carried out successfully.
