Wife beater among drug sus­pects de­tained

KENINGAU: Three men and a women be­tween 19 and 28 years old were ar­rested by Na­tional Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) for drug abuse dur­ing an op­er­a­tion in a vil­lage here on Mon­day night.

One of the sus­pects, a 28year-old man al­ways beat his wife and chil­dren when he was un­der the in­flu­ence of drugs, said Keningau AADK se­nior of­fi­cer Azry Gol­bin @ Azmi here yes­ter­day.

“The man ad­mit­ted that he of­ten lost con­trol by scold­ing and hit­ting his wife and chilren for no rea­son when he is high on drugs. He was of­ten ag­gres­sive to­wards his fam­ily mem­bers.

“The sus­pect is among four, in­clud­ing a woman who was ar­rested dur­ing the op­er­a­tion,” he said.

Azry said that all the sus­pects de­tained would be in­ves­ti­gated un­der Sec­tion 3 (1) of the Drug Ad­dict Act (Treat­ment and Re­cov­ery) Act 1983.

They also tested pos­i­tive for syabu abuse, he said, adding that they were ar­rested fol­low­ing a tip-off.

Azry ad­vised the pub­lic and fam­i­lies to be sen­si­tive to the changes in the be­hav­iours of their fam­ily mem­bers be­fore the sit­u­a­tion gets worse and threat­ens their lives and other com­mu­ni­ties.

He said any com­plaints about drug ad­dic­tion ac­tiv­i­ties could be re­ported to AADK for fur­ther ac­tion by con­tact­ing 087-339886 and its hot­line num­ber 0135459998.
