Walk-in to fill 6,000 places in polytechnics – director

-

PUTRAJAYA: Entry to polytechnics in the country for December intake is still available to students who can walk-in to apply to fill 6,000 places.

Director of Student Intake Division, Polytechnic Education Department, Aziz Zuddin Othman said 10,000 students were offered to pursue their studies there through online applications which were opened in August.

“For the December intake, we are offering 16,000 places to students who want to study for their diplomas. So far, only 10,000 students have accepted the offers from online applications.

They need only bring copies of their certificates and identification documents and those of their parents, and if they qualify for the fields they are applying, they will be able to register immediately for the studies.

Registration for the December intake will begin on Nov 19 and end on Dec 15.

Aziz Zuddin did not dismiss count the possibility that less students were applying for the December intake as many had started their studies in public and private institutes of higher learning.

“Many SPM school leavers last year do not want to pursue their studies as they want to work. We also urge the students who are studying with us to inform their friends who have not yet gone for further studies to come and apply directly.”

Compared to other areas, engineering studies had the most vacancies during the December session and many who applied did not meet the main criteria of three credits in Mathematics, Science or Technology, or any other subject.

“If a student does not have a credit in Mathematics, but is very interested in engineering, we will send them for prediploma studies for one year in selected polytechnics to learn Mathematics and Science before going on to the diploma level.”
